Request a Free EstimateThe existing deck was a low-grade, ground-level wood platform with no roof, no enclosure, and significant structural deterioration. The decking boards and framing were rotted and beyond repair. The homeowners wanted to transform the space into a true screened porch — a covered, bug-free outdoor living area that would be usable year-round — while also retaining an adjacent open deck section for outdoor dining.
Morgan Remodeling began with a full demo of the existing deck, removing all decking boards and the deteriorated framing down to the footings. New pressure-treated framing was installed on the existing footings, and a new deck platform was built across the full footprint. A hip roof was then framed from scratch and tied directly into the existing home roofline — matching the pitch and shingle profile for a seamless, integrated appearance. Once the roof was sheathed and shingled, the screened porch walls were framed with pressure-treated lumber, and full-height screened panels were installed on three sides. A painted wood railing system was installed throughout, and the entire structure — columns, fascia, railing, and trim — was painted white before the final color scheme was applied. The completed porch features bold red screen frames and teal-painted railing balusters, matching the home's existing exterior color palette. The adjacent open deck section was left unenclosed for outdoor dining.
The finished project is a dramatic transformation — from a rotted, unusable deck to a fully covered, screened outdoor living room that integrates naturally with the home's roofline and exterior. The hip roof provides full weather protection, and the screened walls keep the space bug-free through the Triangle's warm seasons. The bold red and teal color scheme ties the addition directly to the home's existing character, making it feel intentional and designed rather than tacked on.
"We went from a deck we couldn't use to a porch we live on. The roof ties in perfectly with the house — it looks like it was always there. Morgan Remodeling did exactly what they said they would, on time and on budget."
